金发美眉的野心

Chapter 268 Wall In The North

There it was. A giant wall that spanned the entire horizon, with the stones that built it visible from all this distance.

Jake could see each brick all the way from where he was standing. That only told him more about the wall that was laid out in front of him.

It was not built by men, that was for sure. This was the work of giants.

"To think that such a wall would be hidden from us for so long. I don\'t remember this story line even one bit.." Jake shook his head.

"And how the hell were we able to miss such a massive structure? Was the forest really that thick, to cover the whole wall? Or was it something that the game decided to do? Play a trick on us so that we weren\'t going to see the wall until we came this close?" Jake told himself.

He looked at the gray color of the wall. It did little to diminish the majestic stature that the wall had. And from here, Jake could see where he had to go as well.

In the middle of the wall, stood a door. Perhaps the only way a mortal was going to be able to cross the wall.

Jake knew there was no way his men could scale the wall and get to the other side. He knew better than that. There was a reason walls existed, and that was to prevent men from crossing to the other side.

"Maybe I should get a closer look?" Jake thought to himself.

"That is too ballsy, isn\'t it?" the voice of reason within him reminded.

But Jake shook his head and smiled.

"What is life without a little risk? Especially when nothing bad is going to come. Who would patrol the wall on the ground? The patrol will be above, and I will have the cover of the trees to make my escape should any one spot me." Jake told himself.

"And this will be a good chance to understand what we are supposed to face. I thought that we would be facing just the one enemy, but now, the way this looks right now, we might face another army. We might be heading into a battle that will decimate us." Jake wondered.

Sieges were one of the most difficult tasks ever.

When there was a wall so high up, defending it was the easiest thing possible, and trying to scale it was too hard. The only way in was the door.

And the door that Jake could see from here, well, it looked hard enough that Jake knew that it wasn\'t the right way in.

Perhaps it would be better if he went there first and scouted out what they had to do. And he would have a first person\'s account for what stood here.

Nothing could beat a first person\'s account.

As he kept making up reasons to get going, the voice of reason within him caved.

Jake smiled as he let go of all the guild within his heart and looked down.

He was still on a tree, and he had to get down to start walking toward the wall.

Looking at the giant height that he scaled, his mind flashed with another idea.

Grinning, he skid on the tree trunk to land on the branch that was directly below him. Then, he jumped, only to grab the branch that he was previously holding on to.

Using that branch, he swung himself forward with all of his strength, immediately touching the next tree\'s branch.

Once again, he swung hard enough with this new branch, propelling himself forward.

Like Tarzan in the forest, he was swinging toward the wall that he had seen with record speed. Not even touching the ground, he was able to cover maybe a few dozen meters every few seconds.

As he started covering some distance, time to time, he would pause to take a few breaths. This was a tiring thing that he was doing, and it was quite loud as well.

But now that he had gotten a layout of the land, he was more and more confident that the enemy was no where near him.

He was certain that if there was a concentration of enemies, they would be somewhere near the wall that he had seen.

Pausing for the fourth time, he climbed the tree trunk of the tree that he was on and looked at the wall again.

Now, after ten minutes of basically sprinting through the forest, he could see the wall in even more of its glory.

There were more details that he had missed on the first glance.

Now, he could see the weathering that the wall had gone through. He could see scars, scratches, and etches within the wall.

He could see that on top of the wall, there were small guard posts. Certainly, there were guard posts there, but he knew that in the massive forest that he was in, there was no way that a guard from the wall would spot him.

Still, one fact perplexed him.

As he looked at the wall, he could not see any movement. There was not a guard in sight. They were supposed to be there, walking around, guarding the wall. And yet, they were missing.

Why was there not a single guard?

"Must be another glitch of the system. As I get closer, I will be able to see who the guards are. Perhaps they are the same monsters we faced a few hours ago? Those strong ones?" Jake wondered.

He skid down again and started moving once more.

Slowly, he was getting closer and closer to the wall. Then, he came to an abrupt stop.

Ping!
